About Ligue 1

Ligue 1 is the top tier of French football, running from mid-August to late May with a short winter break. In recent seasons it has moved to an 18-club format, so the leading sides play a slightly shorter league campaign, with relegation to Ligue 2 at the bottom and promotion filling the gaps. Top-club dominance. For much of the recent past, one club has dominated the French title. That has historically squeezed outright title odds to very short prices and made that side a heavy favourite in most individual games. Short favourites offer little value and still lose sometimes — so treating a dominant club as a guaranteed win is a classic way to lose money slowly.
