What a Heinz bet means
A Heinz is a full-cover bet on six selections producing 57 bets, with no singles:
- 15 doubles
- 20 trebles
- 15 fourfolds
- 6 fivefolds
- 1 sixfold
The name is a nod to the Heinz “57 varieties” slogan — the bet has exactly 57 lines. A £1 Heinz costs £57.
A worked example
Because £57 is a lot, many bettors use a 10p unit, making the Heinz £5.70. Say you back six selections at 2.20 each.
If two win, one double pays 2.20 × 2.20 = 4.84 → about 48p on a 10p line. Against £5.70, still a clear loss.
If all six win, the sixfold alone pays 2.20⁶ ≈ 113.4 → about £11.34 on a 10p stake, plus every lower combination, totalling well over £30. But six from six is a tall order. Our accumulator calculator lists all 57 lines so you can see how many winners you need before the bet turns a profit.
When and why it is used
A Heinz is chosen when someone:
- Has six selections and wants full coverage of every double-and-up combination.
- Wants big upside from a modest per-line stake.
- Likes the structure of a named full-cover bet rather than placing dozens of slips.
It sits between the Lucky 63 (six selections with singles, 63 bets) and the Super Heinz (seven selections, 120 bets).
The honest downside
- 57 slices of margin. Every selection carries the bookmaker’s edge, compounded across all 57 lines. Multiples are where the overround bites hardest — see our margin calculator.
- No singles. One winner from six returns nothing.
- Deceptive cost. “10p a line” is £5.70; each-way doubles it. It creeps up fast.
- Needs several winners. With doubles as the smallest bet, a couple of results barely register — real returns require most of the six to land.
The Heinz is an entertainment-led, high-margin bet. The 57-line structure sounds generous, but the combined edge and the no-singles rule make it hard to profit.
